2006 Bangus Festival a rousing success
Some one million people took part and witnessed the 2006 Bangus Festival
held in Dagupan City from April 21-May 1, 2008, and Santeh Food Corporation
is once again proud to be one of the event’s major sponsors.
“We are here today to celebrate our global feat as the titleholder
of the Guinness World Record for longest barbecue,” said Dagupan
City Mayor Benjamin Lim during the opening ceremonies. “But the
truth is, that is just a remarkable accolade. The best thing that really
happened to our city since we started our bangus Festival in 2002 is the
realization that we can do anything – if only we unite as one team
to achieve a common purpose. That, we consider as incredible.”
The biggest crowd drawer remained the Kalutan Ed Bangus, the record-breaking
and world-renowned street barbecue held annually during the festival,
where participants enjoyed nearly two-kilometers worth of grilled Dagupan
bangus. Santeh Feeds contributed by providing Tateh aprons and toques
to participants.
Also held during the festival was the Gilon! Gilon! Street Dancing Competition
with Tateh-sponsored Barangay Lucao dancers taking the Best in Street
Performance award.
The Bangus Festival, first held in 2002, is an offshoot of the Pista’y
Dayat, which has drawn tourists and visitors to Bonuan, Pangasinan in
the past. Dagupan Mayor Benjamin S. Lim decided to use the celebration
to focus on the local bangus industry and to promote his city as the Bangus
Capital of the World.
Today, the Bangus Festival attracts visitors not only from around the
Philippines but also from other parts of the world.
Santeh Feeds Corporation continues its support to the annual event by
sponsoring other activities held during the week-long festivities, including
the Bangus Fest Opening Ceremonies, the Bangus Fest Amazing Race, the
Pista’y Dayat and an amazing fireworks display during the closing
ceremonies.
